The Department of Maritime Administration of the Maritime Authority Suriname supervises the compliance of legal regulations related to shipping and shipping traffic. In addition, the department is in charge of the inspection of international vessels that put in at the Surinamese ports, vessels sailing the inland waterways and maritime security of ports and vessels. In this regard, the regulations as set forth in treaties ratified by Suriname are also observed.

The department is divided in 2 (two) subdepartments:

• Traffic, Maritime Security and Ports
• Registration, Inspection and Certification
